FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

These are just some of the most frequently asked questions I receive. If you cannot find the answer to your query here then try this sites search facility.

Do I need to empty the freezer?

On standard local removals we frequently transport normal-size upright freezers full, using the trolley we carry on all removals wagons where necessary. We keep them as upright as possible, as this is the manufacturers advice. Larger chest freezers usually have to be emptied and if we have to up-end them we will not be liable for any malfunctions that occur. If you require storage all freezers must be defrosted and bone dry as otherwise mold can develop inside of them and this is difficult to totally remove.

Do I need to pack draw contents into boxes?

Most drawers that contain light, non-breakables can be left full in todays relativelly small, light furniture. For heavier pieces our staff might have to take out the drawers, so you might like to cover the contents...though ther’s not a lot they have not seen on one removal or another..so spare your blushes! leaving clothes in drawers certainly makes for an easier removal and can also keep the volume down if you require storage.

What do I do with hanging clothes?

All our removal and storage wagons have a standard set of kit. This includes special boxes called by various names. We call them ‘HANGING WARDROBES’ , but they are also known as ‘CARDBOARD WARDROBES’ or ‘HANGING WARDOBES’....Designs differ slightly but they all do the same thing....act as portable tempory hanging space that leaves clothes crease free. At the new home the clothes simply lift of the rails in the Hanging Wardrobe and go into your new wardrobes. If you do not have enough wardrobe space we currently leave some with you free of charge (although due to the ever rising increase in cardboard costs we might need to charge in the future)

Will I need to dismantle and disconnect items...or have someone do this for me?

Our staff typically dismantle standard single and double beds and any straightforward items that do not take long to do. If you removal includes more compicated items like captain’s beds, large computer work , large wardrobes etc we will generally charge for this service as an optional extra that you must book before removal day, as the time it takes frequently means we need to have an extra staff member on the removal

Our staff will take plugs out and will disconnect/reconnect washing machines etc but we do this only as a favour and WE STRONGLY ADVISE A PLUMBER OR A SUITABLY TRAINED PERSON does it.

WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY LIABILITY WHATSOEVER FOR ANY PROBLEMS SUCH AS LEAKS, FLOODING AND THE CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGE, AT ANY PROPERTY WHERE OUR STAFF HAVE REMOVED OR CONNECTED EQUIPMENT. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR INSURANCE COVERS THIS UNLIKELY EVENTUALITY AS WE DO NOT OFFER COVER FOR THIS.

I am anxious about my new carpets ? Will they be covered?

They will be covered as standard. Feel free to mention your concern to our porters on removal day and thay will take extra care, too!

Will you take plants?

We sometimes take whole gardens! As long as you have detailed what is going at the time of the removals survey so that we can plan the removal suitably we will take any number of plants. On the average removal these days there are 6-12 pots which we simply palce at the back-end of the wagon.

What items WON’Tyou take?

ANIMALS:

On a local move we will generally put the odd rabbit hutch and occupant in!! Where there is any lielihood of the animal suffering we always play safe and ask clients to deal with tat situation.

Can someone pack and unpack my small items for me and when would this be?

We offer an excellent packing service. Packing normally takes place the day before the removal. On smaller moves we occassionally do it on the removal day, for example where someone is moving to a small flat.

Our packing service does not include unpacking as standard BUT you can book an unpacking service. Simply mention this at the time of the removal survery or phone the office for advice.

What time will the men arrive on removal day?

Typically at about 9.00am. If we have tfuel the vehicles then this can run to 9.30am. Occassionally we come earlier if there is a special need but as the keys for most removals are only released when the monies have transferred there is normally no need.

Will you supply removal boxes?

We certainly do. On local removals we have a ‘free box loan scheme’. What we do is take a £50 cheque deposit. For this you get all the boxes you require. These are good strong double walled removals cartons. We also supply book boxes on moves where there are lots of books (ie. if people have walls of books, not just the odd bookcase).

We supply packing paper and box sealing tape too, as standard.

We can supply other packing materials such as bubblewrap, but you would need to contact the office to check on the current charges.

How many trips will it be?

Usually we arrange to move people who are selling one house and buying their new one in one trip, typically using a suitably sized removals wagon (or sometimes more than one wagon). This is necessary as once the purchasers money has transferred your current house is no longer ‘yours’.... so by rights you should have it emptied of furniture. As your will not receive the keys to your new property from the estate agents until the money has successfully transferred you are ...for a short period...effectivelly homeless. So your possessions stay in our removals wagon until you get the keys. Typically this is between 1.00pm and 3.00pm. It can be earlier, occassionally and it can be later. The unload then goes ahead in one session, with no running back to the old property required.

Long-distance removals are necessarilly done as one trip, unless clients specifically request two smaller trips. This can happern. For example we moved a gentleman to Aberdeen in two trips. The first one took all the backgroung items..if you like the ‘clutter’, so the house

Do you do moves out of the area?

Sure-all UK except some islands. Please phone to check current locations.

Does the bill include VAT?

VAT aspect is clearly indicated.

Do I pay for insurance separately.

We offer Liability cover now. It is generally included as part of the move BUT ask us if you have cover in place and want to use this...we will offer a dicount of about 5%.

What does liability mean?

It means we agree to be liable for your goods subject to a set of terms and conditions that we send you. The reality is it is pretty similar to Insurance.

Can you pack for me?

Certainly, see here. Make sure you ask the Move Surveyor to quote for a pack if he visits.

Do you also unpack?

Yes, by arrangement...it is not included as standard with a pack. See here also.

How long can I keep the loan boxes after the move?

Any reasonable time...a few weeks or months. If you want to keep the loan boxes permanently be fair, call us and we will sell you them at cost. Cheers.

Can I borrow hanging wardrobe boxes?

Yes, it is currently free (but we may have to charge in the future)

Are there any hidden costs?

Of course not...we don't do that sort of thing!!
