Packing

Packing made easy (err)!!!

Well it is extremely easy if you let your removals company do some or all of your packing. A Smooth Move offer Full packs, Breakables packs and also packing by the hour. It may be worth asking for a quote for packing when the Removals Assessor calls...there is no obligation and you may be surprised how affordable it is.

If you prefer to pack yourself then follow these tips and you will make life easier for yourself and pack your possessions better.

1) Only choose a Removals Company that will supply a good set of packing materials...boxes, packing paper and tape for small items and Hanging Wardrobes for hanging garments. (usually brought on move day).

2) Check what items you do NOT need to pack. For example we suggest you leave soft, light items in chests of drawers, ottomans etc.

3) Keep yourself comfortable when packing. It is very easy to get back ache if you pack things whilst leaning over.

Use a table for packing and gather all the items you will need together - ornaments, china, tape, scissors, packing paper (not newspaper as it could mark things). Sit at a chair if necessary....you will be no good to anyone with a bad back!

Make sure boxes are taped securely (especially underneath) and clearly labelled. The most important information is the room in which they are to go. You may find other information is useful, especially if you anticipate not being able to unpack promptly.

Don’t overfill boxes and remember to put heavy items at the bottom with lighter things on top. Wrap each individual item and ‘scrunch’ up some paper to pack between items that seem to rock. Stand plates on end NOT in a pile.

Cushions, pillows etc. can be used to protect such items as computers, small TVs.

Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped with either bubblewrap or packing paper.

Don’t forget the loft, airing cupboard etc.

& PLEASE DON’T PACK THE KETTLE!
